Adventurous or Foolish

For sometime now I have been wanting to learn how to sew. So after much debating on if I should take the big plung into the sewing world I decided to give in. Saturday morning I got up and went to Hancock Fabrics. Everyone was very nice and helpful. They set me up with a good sewing machine and all the necessities and off I went. Well Sunday I get the sewing machine out to start learning how to use it. I open up the directions and they seem easy enough. I start by loading the spool to transfer the thread to the bobbin. I followed the directions word for word and still the thread would wind loose on the bobbin every time. After several tries I began to wonder what I had gotten myself into. I really don't want to give up on the dream yet so I have decided that it is time to call for back up. I am going to find someone to help me get started. I do not yet know who the lucky person will be but my search has begun. Hopefully, in the near future I will be able to post pictures of me sewing a straight line!

Laura, I totally feel your pain! When I started trying to sew a few months ago, I literally spent 1 hour trying to thread the thing correctly and put thread on my bobbin! I was so frustrated I started crying! I did eventually figure it out though and it is so much fun now. I actually went to U Tube and searched for a video on how to thread the bobbin etc... The machine I was working on was really old but they had a video on a similar style and it helped me. Good luck!

La, I think it's great you're learning to sew. I actually have been doing the same thing. I've just gotten so frustrated with how expensive curtains and bedding have gotten. Starting out sure is frustrating! Right now, I have an old machine, but I think I'm gonna ask for a new one for Christmas. Let me know how it goes for you.

Laura, it's me again. I just got a sewing machine, but I am not attempting to use it until I take lessons. I am scared I will break it.

I also wanted to ask you--do you have that picture you took of Scott and me at Sheffer's wedding? We have NO pictures of us together, so I would love a copy. My e-mail is laura_rhodes@hotmail.com

I'm so glad your a blog stalker because I am as well!! I'd love to get together and to answer your question, I really don't know anyone in Huntsville besides the friendly greeters at Walmart :) My number is (256)599-8957. And a note on sewing, my mom taught me when I was young and I have long forgotten how. I do have a machine and if you find any info on a class or anything I would love to know. It would be awesome to be able to sew my own curtains at some point!!!
